2006 - a Hof Jobyssey / eine Hofer Jobyssee
The employment situation in Germany isn't exactly good - but in some regions it is actually at its worst for many decades. Hof surely is one of those regions.
In December 2005 the unemployment rate in the Hof constiuency was at 11.1 % - neighbouring (twin) Czech town of Cheb of comparable size had an unemployment rate of ca. 8% (!)
Yeah, thats Hof - the town I've been job hunting in ever since I've returned from Éire.
Die Arbeitsmarktsituation in Deutschland ist nicht gerade rosig - in einigen Regionen koennte man sogar sagen, die Lage ist so schlimm wie seit Jahrzehnten nicht mehr.
Im Dezember 2005 betrug die Arbeitslosenquote in Hof 11,1 % - unsere Nachbar- und Zwillingsstadt, das tschechische Cheb (Eger) hatte nur 8% vorzuweisen (!)
Jaja, das ist Hof - die Stadt, in der ich seit meiner Rueckkehr auf Jobsuche bin :-(
I was going to have a job interview next Monday - I guess it is not going to take place. I've been researching the company's reputation on the internet and what was initially described as an "office assistant" position is obviously a way to recruite insurance sellers. I'll phone them and clarify/cancel the interview tomorrow :-(
All other internet job offer sources read pretty much the same - call centre agents at ridiculously low wages, mostly outbound Telesales, which I hate more than most things on earth, sales agents for all kinds of things etc. - ... where have all the jobs gone?
Ich haette am naechsten Montag ein Vorstellungsgespraech haben sollen - ich schaetze, es wird nicht stattfinden. Ich habe naemlich der Firma im Internet auf den Zahn gefuehlt - was urspruenglich als "Buerokraft gesucht" ausgeschrieben wird, ist offenbar meist nur ein plumper Versuch, neue Versicherungsvertreter anzuwerben. Ich werd' wohl morgen anrufen muessen, um die Sache zu klaeren/abzubrechen. :(
All die anderen Onlinejobangebote lesen sich aehnlich - entweder Call Centre agents fuer Hungerloehne, hauptsaechlich Telesales - was ich so sehr hasse, wie kaum etwas auf dieser Erde, Vertreter/Verkaeufer etc fuer alles moegliche... Wo sind all die Stellen hin?
Well, if the conservative party's canditate for March's mayor elections is insisting on the new town-marketing slogan "Hof - sun city" he will have to take care of more than just the weather.
Naja, falls der schwarze OB-Kanditat fuer die Wahlen im Maerz bei seinem Slogan "Hof - sun city" bleibt, muss er sich wohl um mehr als nur das Wetter kuemmern.

"park and see" is a wee bit strange, I used to find it very annoying to be told to park and see somewhere along the motorway :-p
Well, the conservative's candidate has won the elections - surely the <50% voter turnout has played its part in the game.
re/ the job situation ... I won't be waiting for the airport ... which is doomed to run into bankruptcy before it's been extended already.
Out of Hof, perhaps back to Ireland, or off to Eastern Europe ... just some place where it doesn't take at least a hand full of decades for people to adopt to new circumstances.
Btw, are you a Hofer yourself (well, I can tell you're not a native Hoferanian by you very name? ;-) I'm looking to get into contact with English speakers in the Hof area.
