Some more pictures - noch ein paar Bilder

So, jetzt bin ich auch endlich mal dazu gekommen, noch ein paar Bilder online zu stellen, die noch auf meinem Nokia rumlagen. Sie sind von September und Oktober 2005. Die Bildunterschriften sollten eigentlich alles erklaeren.

Well, eventually I've found the time to put some of the pics that were catching dust on my Nokia's memory card online. They've been taken during September and October 2005. The describtions should explain what they show.

...fuer die kleine Aufmunterung heute nachmittag ...

Da steh' ich doch im Mediamarkt, erklaere diesen Dumpfbacken ne halbe Stunde lang, dass ich einfach nur Formular von debital brauche, nur um dann mit "gucken Sie doch mal auf die debitel homepage" abgespeist zu werden, und dann klingelt auch noch mein Handy:

"Cáit is calling" ... hmm, very strange, why wud she call me on my German mobile? Anyway, my curiousity won and I answered the phone:

"Schni Schna Schnappi..."

... is what I heard on my mobile after answering a call from Cáit while standing in the local electronics superstore after trying to explain to them dumb arses that I need a piece of paper from my German mobile operator to switch over to another. All they told me after 30 minutes was "check our website, you should find something there". Thanks Cáit for cheering me up today :-P

Kaum ne Woche da... Only back for a week...

...und schon hab ich meinen ersten Test schreiben muessen duerfen. Vor 1,5 Stunden fand der Einstufungstest fuer den UniCert Sprachkurs Englisch statt. Ich hab aus Spass an der Freude und vorallem, um nicht einzurosten was English angeht, mitgemacht und warte nun auf das Ergebnis und darauf, zu wissen, ob ich in die "Fortgeschrittenen" Stufe einsteigen kann.

...and I've already sat my first exam - the entry test for the UniCert English course, which is a unified and certified language teaching programme. It is not mandatory for me or my course, but I'll participate just for fun and moreover not to lose my English again :P Now I'm waiting for the results and am curious if they'll let grant me a lateral entry into their advancer lecture, otherwise I would have to take 3 semesters until I get the certificate and would most certainly be bored :-P

letzter Teil der Heimreise - Part 4 of my journey to Germany

Wir starteten in Crowborough gegen 2h morgens am 23.09.05 und fuhren ueber schmale Strassen Richtung Autobahn nach Dover. Der Nebel war stellenweise brutal - ich konnte kaum 2-3 Meter vor mir schauen, was bei den schmalen und kurvigen Gebirgsstrassen kein Spass war.

Well, we left Crowborough at 2am on the 23rd of September and took the wee roads towards the motorway to Dover. The fog was cruel ... at times I couldn't see more than 2-3 metres ahead of me and this wasn't much fun on them small winding roads.

Na jedenfalls schafften wir es nach Dover noch rechtzeitig, fuhren auf die Faehre und eine Stunde spaeter erreichten wir Frankreich - Calais. Ich fuhr die ersten paar Hundert Kilometer und es war einfach nur saubloed, auf der rechten Strassenseite zu fahren. ... Nee, wirklich ... hab' mich bis heute noch nicht daran gewoehnt. Das erste was ich in Calais angesteuert habe waren ein Geldautomat, um €€€ zu kriegen und die naechste Baeckerei, um pain au chocolat zu kaufen.

Dajana konnte die Aufregung um franzoesische Schokobroetchen, frueh morgens um 7h nicht verstehen :P muss sie aber auch nicht :)

Anyway, we made it to Dover in time, checked in and boarded the ferry. One hour later we arrived in France - Calais. I was driving during the first bit and it was SOOOOOOOO weird!!!!!! How can anyone seriously drive on the right side of the road? No way! We left the ferry port behind us and my first way was in to town, get €€€ from the ATM and pain au chocolat from the next boulangerie :)

Dajana couldn't understand the excitement :P about chocolate buns ... but well, she doesn't have to :)

Wir konnten uns die Bezahl-Autobahn nicht leisten und so mussten wir die kostenlose Route waehlen, was ganz schoen geaetzt hat. Aber die 200km Umweg kamen immer noch billiger als die direkte Strecke mit 'peage'.
Wir passierten Duenkirchen, Lille, Valencienne und Reims, um schliesslich meine gute langjaehrige Freundin Blandine in Epernay zu treffen. Wir gingen was trinken und plauderten ein wenig und dann ging's schon weiter nach Troyes, wo wir Coralie treffen wollten und die Nacht verbringen durften. An dieser Stelle nochmals allerherzlichsten Dank an die Schaffs fuer ihre Gastfreundschaft.

We couldn't afford the toll-motorways so we had to take the free ones which surely is some kind of a pain. But 200km extra were still cheaper than paying the 'peage'. We passed Dunkirk, Lille, Valencienne, Reims and eventually met my old long-time friend Blandine in Epernay. We had a drink and a chat and then we drove on to meet Coralie in Troyes, where we'd be staying for the night. Many thanks again to the Schaff family for having us.

Am naechsten Nachmittag fuhren wir wieder nordwaerts, Richtung belgische Grenze und auf dem Weg dorthin hielten wir bei Blandine in Geromont. Wieder ein bisschen quatschen, Wiedersehen mit ihren Eltern und ihrer Schwester nach sooo langer Zeit und dann brachen wir auf zur letzten Etappe. Wir fuhren die ganze Nacht durch und kamen gegen 10h frueh in Hof an. Es war hoechste Zeit, dass diese 6-Tagesfahrt zu Ende ging, Dajana und ich waren beide maechtig genervt und flippten bei der geringsten Kleinigkeit aus.

Oh ja, vielen lieben Dank an die Boucton's fuer den tollen Champagner, wir werden an Euch denken wenn wir ihn geniessen.

So, und was seit meiner Ankunft in Hof passiert wird Gegenstand dieses Blogs sein. Bleibt dran :)

The next afternoon we drove north again towards the Belgium border and on the way north, we stopped at Blandine's in Geromont. Quick chat again, met her parents after sooo long and then we left for the final part of the journey ... we drove all night until the early morning and arrived in Hof around 10am. It was nerve-wrecking, Dajana and me were shouting at the most stupid and slightest comments ... it was so time that this 6 day drive would soon be over.

Oh, and many thanks to the Boucton family for the lovely champagne, we'll think of youse when we enjoy it.

Well, and what happened ever since I was back in Hof is what this blog is going to be about. Stay tuned, more news soon :P

The Hof-Blues

Heute war mein erster Vollzeit-Tag an der FH seit 1,5 Jahren. Oh Mann. Nicht nur, dass die Stadtbusse sehr bescheidene Fahrplaene haben, nein, in meiner Bude gibt's immernoch weder Strom noch Heizung, News von der Jobfront gibt's auch noch keine und mein Stundenplan fuer mein kombiniertes Doppelsemester WI5+WI7 ist diabolisch.

Am Nachmittag bin ich dann fuer Cáit in den Mediamarkt gefahren (Monatskarte fuer HofBus - mein Fiesta ist ja jetzt in Ruhestand), nur um (wie erwartet) festzustellen, dass der 27,00 EUR 512Mb-Stick seit Samstag schon restlos ausverkauft ist. Na gut, dann eben online einkaufen. In ca. einer Stunde muss ich auch schon wieder offline - der letzte Bus von der FH ins Stadtzentrum faehrt um 20.26h ... tz!

Today was my first full-blown college day back at the university of applied sciences Hof ever since February 2004. Jayses... not only have the city busses a rather shyte schedule, no ... my appartment still hasn't any electricity or heating, no news re/ job search and my college timetable for the coming semester is diabolic.

In the afternoon I took the bus down town to check the local electronics superstore for a EUR27.00 memory stick with 512 Mbytes... they only advertised them on Saturday and its sold out already. Fine, I'll buy online somewhere else then. In about an hour I'll have to go offline as my very last bus weekdays leaves at 8.26pm ... pfft!

Genug ge-bloggt fuer heute- enough blogged today

So, hier ist's jetzt halb zwoelf Abends - 30 Minuten bis Mitternacht. Ich bin hundemuede und mach' mich jetzt auf den 5km Weg nach Hause. Morgen stell ich noch den Rest der Bilder (Faehre nach Frankreich / Frankreich) online.

Well, its half eleven at night here. I'm very tired and will get on my way home now ... just a 3 miles walk :P I'll put the remaining pictures online tomorrow (ferry to France/France).

LONDON: Back 2/Zurueck nach Germany/Deutschland Part/Teil III

Wir wachten frueh zeitig auf, und machten uns auf den Weg nach London (per Zug). Vielen Dank nochmal an Bernice fuer die Fahrkarten!!!

In London angekommen liefen wir schnurstracks vom Bahnhof (Charing Cross) zum Trafalgar square. Dort schob ich ein paar Sandwiches ein und nachdem Dajana sich nach den Eintrittspreisen in die Nationalgallerie erkundigt hatte und wir erfreut feststellten, dass es kostenlos war, gings hinein in die Welt der Maler und Gemalten.

Thursday - Sep 22nd 2005
We got up early and were off to London by train. Thank you again soooo much, for getting us the tickets, Bernice!!!

We arrived at Charing Cross by train and walked straight down to Trafalgar square. I had a few sandwiches and Dajana was meanwhile checking the admission fees for the national gallery. To my very delight, she found out that admission was free and so we were going into the National Gallery of England - the world of painters and painted :)

Ich war ja anfangs skeptisch, habe mich nie als grossen Kunstliebhaber gesehen. Aber als ich dann vor den Kunstwerken stand, die Farbstriche, Details und die leuchtenden Farben sah, von denen einige schon bis zu 800 Jahre alt waren, hat es mich erwischt. Wir brauchten fast 2 Stunden in der Gallerie und haben trotzdem nicht mehr als ein Viertel aller Bilder sehen koennen.

I was kind of sceptic regarding art and paintings in particular. But when I was standing in front of those master pieces, the paint-brush strokes, the details, the bright colours, some of the pictures as old as 800 years, I was struck and it took as two hours and we still didn't get to see a quarter of all paintings.

Danach ging's zu Fuss zum Picadilly Circus, Ich kaufte mir die neue White Stripes CD im Virgin Megastore und dann nahmen wir die Ubahn nach Westminster. In Westminster spazierten wir um das Parlamentsgebaeude, Big Ben und die Westminster Abbey, ueberquerten die Themse auf der Lambeth Bruecke und liefen am anderen Ufer zurueck in Richtung Jubilee Gaerten.

Later, we went to Picadilly Circus, I bought the new White Stripes CD in the Virgin Megastore and after that we took the tube to Westminster.
In Westminster, we walked around the Parliament Buildings, Westminster Abbey and crossed the Thames using Lambeth Bridge and walked back towards Jubilee Gardens on the other side of the river. That was some walk :)

Dann ging's wieder per Ubahn von Waterloo nach Tower Hill, gleich ueber dem London Tower. Leider war's schon etwas spaet, um noch richtig rein zu gehen, so dass wir nur rundrum liefen und dann ueber die Tower Bridge gingen und auf der anderer Seite der Themse wieder zum Bahnhof liefen. Wir nahmen den naechsten Zug zurueck nach Tunbridge Wells und am naechsten Tag sollte es auch schon nach Dover und damit nach Frankreich gehen.

Then we took the tube again at Waterloo station and went to Tower Hill station, just across the road from London Tower. We walked along but were a wee bit late for actually going inside. So we then crossed Tower Bridge and walked back to London Bridge station on the other side of the Thames. We took the next train back to Tunbridge Wells. The next we'd be heading for Dover and the mainland - France.
